KOCHI: Still facing teething troubles in their debut Indian Premier League season, Kochi Tuskers Kerala are buoyed up for more after a commanding victory against title contenders Mumbai Indians in their own den on Friday.
Coming as it did, it was a big relief following losses in their opening two matches, the Tuskers returned home to a rousing reception at the Cochin International Airport in Nedumbassery on Saturday.
The Kerala Cricket Association representatives, budding cricketers and cheering fans came together to welcome the team.
Coach Geoff Lawson led the team out as they were received with bouquets and flowers. In accompaniment were a band of percussionists playing the traditional 'panchari melam'.
"It was great to beat Mumbai Indians in Mumbai," Lawson told reporters. "We have proved that we can beat any team." He said the team was looking forward to their next home match against defending champions Chennai Super Kings on Monday. "Every team is beatable," Lawson trailed off.
Meanwhile, Kochi Cricket Private Limited representatives are in talks with the Kochi Corporation to sort out the ticketing issues for the home matches.
In the two days since the first batch of around 26,000 matchtickets were distributed to outlets across the state, the response from the fans has been cold.
The counters in front of the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium here barely had any queue on Saturday.
